PPC Hosts Successful Community Consultations to Shape Veteran Wellbeing Services

Over the weekend, PPC proudly hosted three dynamic community consultation sessions, contributing to the national co-design process for the new veteran wellbeing agency recommended by the Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide .

Day One: Engaging with Ex-Service Organisations

Friday's session brought together representatives from local Ex-Service Organisations (ESOs), including Defence Shed Wagga representation from the local Wagga Wagga sub Branch. Discussions centered on enhancing collaboration between ESOs and the proposed agency, emphasising the need for integrated support systems that address the multifaceted needs of veterans.

Day Two: Focusing on Families and Veterans

Saturday featured two separate sessions. The morning was dedicated to hosting families of veterans, providing a platform to voice their unique perspectives and needs. The afternoon session focused on veterans themselves, with around 20 local contributors sharing invaluable insights. Key themes included the importance of accessible brain health services, streamlined transition support, and the integration of community-based resources.

Advocating for a Regional Hub Model

A recurring proposal across all sessions was the establishment of a regional hub model. This approach aims to centralise services, making them more accessible and tailored to the specific needs of the local veteran community. Such hubs would serve as one-stop centres, offering a range of services from health care to employment assistance, fostering a more cohesive support network.

Celebrating Our Volunteer Workforce

The success of these sessions was made possible by our dedicated volunteers. Their commitment and passion were evident in every aspect of the event, from organising logistics to facilitating discussions. Their efforts underscore the vital role that volunteers play in bringing such initiatives to life.

Looking Ahead

These consultations mark a promising step forward in an ever-changing and complex environment. The insights gathered will inform the development of the new veteran wellbeing agency, ensuring it is responsive to the real needs of veterans and their families. PPC remains committed to advocating for better services in the region and will continue to play an active role in shaping the future of veteran support.
